Reflection on Social Media Case 2: Ellen Degeneres and the most Retweeted Photo

Image
Ellen Degeneres is one of the most popular celebrities and talk show hosts in the country. I personally have always loved watching her talk show with fun segments and generous donations. My family and I always love to watch the Oscars and Grammys together, so in 2014 we were all excited to find out that Ellen was hosting the Oscars. In my family we make it a point to try and see all, if not as many as possible, of the best picture nominees before the Oscars premiere. While watching the award show together with my family, we were so excited to see the selfie that Bradley Cooper took of all of these amazing and random celebrities. The first thing my older sister did was retweet the picture. By the next morning all of the major news networks were talking about the picture and the challenge that came with it. Social Media Change Assignment

Social media has changed communication significantly throughout the past ten- twenty years. There are so many different ways to stay connected with people that we have encountered through social media. For example, in college, if you meet someone at a party that you instantly connect with, you get their phone number or snapchat. Any social media source that helps you stay connected to that person. When reading the case summary, I could see where the executives of the multibillion dollar company was coming from when coming up with the infamous hashtag. The thing about Mcdonald's is that there are so many of them, and you can’t always rely on their food or service. Horror stories like finding hairs in their mcdoubles, or fingernails in their bigmac, I could only imagine what was going through corporates heads. What was supposed to be a beneficial and promotional hashtag turned into the decrease in sales and profit of the fast food company. When researching more about what exactly an “expert blind spot” is, I was finding many articles about teaching. According to ascd.org, The expert blind spot can be defined as teaching specific topics or skills without making clear their context in the broader fundamental structure of a field or knowledge. The CEO of Mcdonald’s was looking for a way to pro...
